Helping You Heal Through Somatic Therapy and Nervous System Support
Evidence-based somatic therapy, trauma recovery, and nervous system support to help you release stress, restore balance, and feel safe in your body in Kansas City and virtually.
Hi. I’m Erin McCarthy.
I guide people in Kansas City and online through somatic therapy, trauma recovery, and nervous system support, helping them feel calmer, steadier, and more at home in their bodies.
Using evidence-based practices like Somatic Experiencing®, the Safe and Sound Protocol, Rest & Restore Protocol, and a deep understanding of Polyvagal Theory, I combine science-backed tools with a compassionate, body-led approach so you can release stress, rebuild balance, and reconnect with your resilience.
My Path to Nervous System Healing
I didn’t set out to do this work because it sounded interesting. I came to it because my life brought me here.
When my son was little, I watched how early trauma showed up in his body, his emotions, and his sense of safety and connection because of things that happened before he was even born. At the same time, I was carrying my own trauma history, trying to hold it all together, and realizing quickly that just talking about what happened wasn’t enough. Our bodies were holding onto the story of what we’d been through, even thought our minds were trying to move on.
What changed things for both of us was learning how to support the nervous system directly. I discovered what can happen when the nervous system is able to feel safe. Finding ways to listen to the wisdom of our bodies, not just our minds, gave us space to release, reset, and rebuild. It felt like a breath of air I didn’t know I had been holding. That experience lit a fire in me to go deeper into somatic therapy, trauma recovery, and nervous system support practices that are human-first, body-led, and shaped by the science of how our bodies and nervous systems respond to chronic stress, overwhelm, and trauma and what actually helps. Along the way, I trained in the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP), the Rest and Restore Protocol (RRP), Somatic EMDR, and polyvagal-informed yoga, and I am currently in the Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner Training Program. This three year program is a body-based approach to trauma resolution developed by Dr. Peter Levine. I am in the process of integrating these principles into my existing practice.
But more than credentials, what I bring is a lived understanding: I know what it's like to feel stuck in survival, and I know what it's like to finally find a way through.
“I know what it’s like to feel stuck in survival mode, and I know what it’s like to finally find a way through.”
My Approach: Support that honors your story+your body
I believe healing happens when the nervous system feels supported and safe enough to reset. That’s why my work goes beyond talking about what happened and instead focuses on how your body has carried it.
Through a gentle, body-led process, I help you tune into what your nervous system is holding, then guide you toward more balance, calm, and connection. This isn’t about pushing or forcing change. It’s about giving your body the space and tools it needs to unwind old patterns, release stress, and rebuild resilience.
I integrate a range of science-backed somatic practices like Somatic Experiencing®, the Safe and Sound Protocol, Rest & Restore Protocol, polyvagal-informed yoga, and practical coaching strategies to meet you exactly where you are. Every step is tailored to your pace and your story, with compassion and curiosity leading the way. For those who desire it, I offer a Christian perspective while honoring and welcoming the diverse beliefs and worldviews each client brings.
The heart of my approach is simple: healing is possible when your body feels safe enough to do the work.
Who I Work With
Many of the people I support look fine on the outside—handling work, family, and life—while inside they feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck.
I work with people who:
Carry the weight of past experiences that still show up in the present
Feel stuck in cycles of stress, anxiety, or shutdown
Notice their bodies reacting in ways they can’t always explain or control
Want practical, effective tools to feel calmer, more grounded, and connected
If you've tried talk therapy or self-help and feel like something is still missing, this work is for you.
This is a space to gently support your nervous system, to cultivate resilience, and to rediscover the steadiness that is already within you.
If you’re desiring more ease, clarity, and room to breathe, you’re in the right place.
